JCRC FALL LECTURE SET FOR OCTOBER 23 Why Jews Are Worried Deborah E. Lipstadt* on the Rising Anti-Semitism in Europe The Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte’s Community Relations Council (JCRC) welcomes Dr. Deborah Lipsdadt to Charlotte on Thursday, October 23rd, 7 PM in the Sam Lerner Center for Cultural Arts at Shalom Park. Dr. Lipstadt will discuss emerging contemporary manifestations of anti-Semitism, particularly in Europe. *Dr. Deborah Lipstadt is the Dorot Professor of Modern Jewish and Holocaust Studies at Emory University in Atlanta. In addition to authoring several books about the Holocaust, Lipsdtadt was an historical consultant to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, and has served as an advisor to former Secretary of State Madeline Albright on matters of religious persecution abroad. She has appeared on CNN, CBS's 'Sixty Minutes,' NBC's 'Today Show,' and is a frequent contributor to numerous national newspapers. Lipstadt was a consultant to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. In 1994, she was appointed by Bill Clinton to the United States Holocaust Memorial Council, on which she served two terms as a member of its Executive Committee and chaired the Educational Committee and Academic Committee. Dr. Lipstadt has been called upon by members of the United States Congress to consult on political responses to Holocaust denial. She has received numerous teaching awards including Emory's student government association's award for being the teacher most likely to motivate students to learn about new and unfamiliar topics and the Emory Williams award, for her courses on modern Jewish and Holocaust studies.  The lecture is free and open to the public.
